Medal of Valor – Yair Racheli

Yair Racheli a soldier from the 1st Batttalion, participated in the battle on the 19.1.48 next to the Arab village of Shfar'am, against an Arab band entrenched in a house. A machine gun that was fired from within the house, caused many casualties and prevented the Palmach force from attacking or retreating. Yair Racheli took five hand-grenades, crawled towards the house and threw them into the house, thereby paralyzing the enemy and enabling the force to retreat.
