Israel ("Izzy", "Srulik") Koplowitz, born in Biezun, Poland, December 26, 1926, to Mordechai and Chana, youngest sibling to 7 brothers and sisters. Bar mitzvah’d in the Lodz Ghetto and survived several concentration camps along with only 2 sisters, Bluma and Rachel. Survived the Shoah by learning electrical work in the Gusen concentration camp. Smuggled into British Mandate Palestine in 1945 on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and becoming a Kibutznik and member of the Palmach and reveling in his re-birth and a second chance at life in Israel, the land he loved so much. Enlisted in February 1948 and served in Company A of the 5th Battalion of the Harel Brigade of the Palmach. Injured during the Burma Road battle in the 1948 War of Independence, fully recovered, was commissioned as an officer in 1951, and served again as a Lieutenant in the 1956 Sinai War. Emigrated to New York at the insistence of his wife Sara in 1957, finally settling in Toronto, Canada, where as patriarch and mentor, he raised a family of 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and counting.  Died July 12, 2017 at age 90, a much beloved “Saba”, always thinking back and talking glowingly about his years in Israel and love for the Palmach and Zahal, the Nation, and its people.

ישראל (איזי, שרוליק) קופלוביץ נולד בבייז'ון, פולין, ב-26 בדצמבר 1926, למרדכי ולחנה, האח הצעיר מבין שבעה אחים ואחיות. את בר המצווה חגג בגטו לודז'. שרד מספר מחנות ריכוז יחד עם שתי אחיות בלבד, בלומה ורחל. הצליח לשרוד את מחנה הריכוז גוזן על ידי כך שהציג את עצמו כחשמלאי, ולמעשה למד את המקצוע תוך כדי עבודה. הוברח לארץ ישראל בשנת 1945 לחופי הים התיכון והפך לקיבוצניק ולחבר בפלמ"ח. נהנה מלידה מחדש ולהזדמנות שנייה לחיים בישראל, הארץ אותה אהב כל כך. התגייס בפברואר 1948 ושירת בפלוגה א' בגדוד החמישי של חטיבת הראל. נפצע בקרב על דרך בורמה במלחמת העצמאות, החלים, הוסמך לקצונה ב-1951 ושירת כסגן במלחמת סיני ב-1956. היגר לניו יורק בהתעקשותה של אשתו שרה בשנת 1957, ולבסוף התיישב בטורונטו, קנדה. שם, כאב וכמנטור, גידל משפחה בת שלושה ילדים, עשרה נכדים ושניים עשר נינים, והמספרים הולכים וגדלים. נפטר ב-12 ביולי 2017 בגיל 90. סבא אהוב, תמיד נזכר בערגה וסיפר בהתלהבות על שנותיו בישראל ועל אהבתו לפלמ"ח ולצה"ל, לעם ולאנשים
